Walking Away from a Toxic Friendship by Kathy Cobb

Are Toxic Friendships Making You Sick? Then Make a U-Turn and Walk Away!

You know the feeling, you are getting ready to meet up with a certain person in your life and you start filling anxious or ill. Feelings of insecurity bombard your mind and you wish you did not have to go. If that’s you, take action because your emotional health is at stake.

This may seem harsh to some but not to God. You see, God has an amazing journey for your life and toxic friendships are not part of it.

For some of you, it will take tremendous courage to change directions and walk away from a toxic friendship. You may experience fear of ending it and that’s okay. It is a normal feeling. And yet, I feel some of you are worried about the other person’s feelings.  It is in that moment; you need to remind yourself of how this person makes you feel. Are you comfortable in their presence? Do you feel cherished and respected? If not, it’s time to be your own best friend and not your own worst enemy. By that I mean, loving oneself is caring enough to walk away from a toxic relationship.

God wants our friendships to bring out the best in one other.  If that is not happening, then it’s time to make a U-Turn, Walk Way and Do Not Look Back.

Good Friends Are Worth The Pain of Letting Go of Toxic Friends

It may take a season to find new friends, but the reward is so worth it. What is the reward?  Instead of anxiety, you are joyful and excited to meet up with your friends. The best part is you enjoy each other’s company because of mutual respect and admiration.

The next step is your –start asking God the tough question, why do I allow myself to be mistreated? From there, start making the changes needed to build healthy friendships. I promise you will never regret walking away from a toxic friendship. Today is your day to “Be Your Own Best Friend”!
