14 Jan The Shade of Your Right Hand by Brenda Bonogofsky
Have you ever been reading something you have read before, when all a sudden something hits you? Like the words just jump off the page at you?
This happened to me not long ago. I was reading Psalm 121 when verse 5 hit me. Psalm 121:5 says, “ The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand”. The word “shade” seemed to leap off the page at me. What I saw in my mind was a young girl playing outside on a sunny day and she sees her shadow. She moves her hands to try and catch the shadow. When she can’t catch it, she tries to get away from it. No matter how hard she tries, she just can’t catch it or get away from it.
This got me thinking. We know the Bible tells us that God will never leave us or forsake us. But, do we really believe it? There are times when things in my life are just not going right I wonder, “God, where are you?” In times of trouble, it seems to us that we are alone, but, really, we are not.
In Isaiah 41:13 it says,” For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” God is holding you in his right hand. You may not feel it, but he has you and is leading you through whatever you are going through right now. He will never let you go. I believe in those times I just can’t seem to hear from God on what to do is when he is saying, “be still and know I am God”. He wants us to trust him and give our worries, fears and anxiety over to him.
Not long after reading Psalm 121 I was going to Church and it was a very windy day which made it hard to walk. I looked down at my hand and said, “God, I need your help to walk into Church. Let me feel you holding my hand. The wind was still blowing, but it was like I did not even feel it. Walked right into Church with no problems. God had me. He has you, too.
Today I went outside to play with my dog and I saw the shadow of my right hand. I thought of the little girl that tried to catch her shadow. So, I tried to catch it, but I could not. Then I heard the Lord say to me,” you can’t catch it because I am holding your hand”. This put a smile on my face. We are never alone because God is always with us, holding on to us, walking with us.
Remember swinging your arms around when you walked just being happy and having fun? Well it is time for us to swing our arms and walk together, hand and hand with God.

Posted at 17:49h, 04 SeptemberLinda, the imagery you used was wonderful! I could see the little girl playing and trying to grab or run from her shadow. I even prayed this morning that a friend would know and feel that he was in palm of God’s hand. Thank you for the wonderful reminder that God is in control of everything. That we don’ need to chase after the wind or battle against the wind, God IS the wind and He will use it for our good and to help us not harm us.
