17 Dec The Magic and Joy of Christmas by Kathy Cobb
Today I was reading a Christmas article written by a young woman who lives in New York. With excitement, Kari shared why she loves the holiday season. It is not because of the beautiful decorations, Christmas carols, Santa Claus or the gift giving. Rather it was about what happens in the crowded streets, shops and the subway of her city – strangers making eye contact, smiling at one another, and joyfully exclaiming “Merry Christmas!” With every smile, she is filled with joy and believes that deep down inside people like her want to experience the true meaning of Christmas – that there is hope, peace and love in the midst of a chaotic world!
Even with the hustle, bustle and stress of the season, something magical seems to enter the hearts of man. Generosity and compassion for others take priority, differences are set aside, and, for a brief period of time, we believe Christmas miracles are possible.
As a Christian, it does not surprise me that people are compelled to be more generous or that a believing spirit emerges from the depth of a person’s heart. For we know that the reason we celebrate Christmas is because of the birth of Jesus Christ, the promised child who would bring gifts of good tidings, joy, hope to the world and, for those who believe in him, precious gift of eternal life!
From a tiny manger in Bethlehem, compassion was released, and a new era began. History was forever changed, and prophecy came true. For it was declared:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
And the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of immense joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you, he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angels, praising God and saying,” Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests” (Luke 2:10-14).
It is true – Christmas does something to hearts because His presence lives within our hearts. So, as you share gifts with one another this Christmas, remember the reason for the season is the most treasured gift from above – our Messiah Jesus Christ!
Merry Christmas dear ones!
