30 Jun Sun Goddess by Kathy Cobb
As a small child, I always looked forward to sitting on the front porch and letting the sunshine on my face. As soon as the first ray brushed my face, something magical always seemed to happen. My mind would relax, and pure joy would flood my deepest emotions. Suddenly a big smile would form on my lips, and I would be ready to conquer the world. The yard was my magical kingdom, and my neighborhood was the nations.
As I got older, I chose vacations that provided me with opportunities to worship the sun. Every summer you would find me at the beach. Summer provided me the time to bake in the sun – Bike riding, scuba diving, watching surfers and hanging out at the beach was a big source of happiness for me!
Unfortunately, the summer sun was not kind to my skin. As I was to find out in my thirties, too much sun exposure without protection can actually harm your skin. In 1991, I was diagnosed with Melanoma, an extremely dangerous form of skin cancer and in some cases results in death. I am thankful to report that I was blessed to have caught the cancer early.
Through that experience, I learned the importance of the proper use of sunscreen lotion. As my dear friends, I want to encourage you to apply your sunscreen as you lay by the pool, walk along the beach or engage in outdoor activities with your children, family, and friends. Your skin is your largest organ and needs your tender loving care. There are so many wonderful products that protect your skin that you can purchase from the store. Just remember to look for products that have SPF 15 or higher on the front. The best news of all is that sunscreen blocks the rays that cause skin cancer and helps prevent unwanted wrinkles! For us non tanners, a good spray tan or suntan products works miracles! See you at the beach!!!!

Posted at 10:11h, 22 JulyThank you for this, Kathy. When you were talking about how the sunshine brought you such joy, I had a major ah-ha. I’ve been reading the book Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins and in it he talks about the “rules” we have that govern what needs to happen in order for us to feel good or be happy. I realized that one of my “rules” has been that it has to be sunny and warm in order for me to be happy or feel good, so on days like today when it is dreary out, I have unconsciously chosen in the past to not be happy about it. The awesome thing is that we can choose our “rules” so I can now change that one to be happy no matter what kind of weather there is! Thanks for being the catalyst for a huge ah-ha moment and change in my life!
