It’s Sandal Season! Get those toes in shape! by Julie Hoffman

It’s Sandal Season! Get those toes in shape! by Julie Hoffman

It’s sandal season and we want to make sure our toes are looking their best! Of course, a trip for a pedicure at the local nail salon is something we can look forward to, but you can save some time and money by treating your feet at home with a simple foot regimen.

Step 1: Soak

You don’t need a fancy foot spa, though they can be nice. A large basin or in desperation a large bowl can do the trick. Use a foot soak in your water and let them sit for 5 minutes or so while you relax with a book, magazine or blog like this one.

Step 2: Scrub

You can do this one at a time. Towel off your foot and use a foot file or pumice stone to get off the tough skin on places like your heels. Then use a pumice cream or a foot scrub to massage away all of the other rough spots on your entire foot and rinse off with your hands and water. Repeat if necessary. Sometimes it’s been a little while and so we may have some extra calluses, so we need to go ever them again.

Step 3: Trim, Shape and Paint

Now we want to take our feet out and dry them off well.  At this point you’ll use your clippers and nail file to trim and shape your toenails. If you have some cuticles that need to be pushed back or trimmed use a cuticle oil to soften them more first. When you are finished apply your favorite shade of nail polish. You may decide to also use a base and top coat. Some polishes that are gel finish have all of the coats in one application. It will just depend on what your preference is.

Step 4: Moisturize

Now that you are all pretty and your nail polish is totally dry it’s time to moisturize those feet so they will be happy and stay soft looking longer. Use a deep penetrating foot crème for this step. Work it into your feet and ankles and when you are done let it soak in and dry before you get up and start walking around again.

Step 5: Maintain

Maintain your new fresh feet by using a gentle, everyday foot scrub in your shower and a good foot cream at night when you go to bed. Even if you opt to have the professionals take care of your feet, using the products in between visits can give you a little more time before you need to go back.

Follow these steps and you will have more beautiful feet in your sandals this summer while you save a little money too!
