Here Comes That Holiday….Again! by Wanda Whitley

Ah.  The month of love!  Hearts soaring, passions roaring, a kiss and a cuddle, a hug and a snuggle.  Flowers and candy, Valentines are dandy!  A teddy bear, love is everywhere!  Gotta love it.  I have always been blessed to have someone who remembered me on the special day of Valentine’s Day.  This year, I won’t.  My husband is in Heaven, you see.  Now I can relate to the group of people that hate Valentine’s Day, the ones that have a desk that remains the same, while flowers, cards, and treats are delivered to their co-workers all around them.  Not that I need anything material, I never needed anything material.  I had his love, you know?  Love is indeed all you need.  Setting aside Valentine’s Day, we are called to love one another not just on this holiday, but every day.  Jesus said in John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”  Sisters, we are loved more than we can comprehend and fathom by God.  Those of us who may be bypassed on Valentine’s Day this year, we are not forgotten.  God loved us all so much, that He gave His one and only Son to save us.  We should all be rejoicing on Valentine’s Day and every day that we are loved so much!  Since we are called by Jesus to love one another, let’s do it!  Be a friend to someone.  I heard a really great church ad recently.  I cannot recall the minister’s name delivering this powerful statement, but it went like this: “If you go out looking for a friend, you won’t find any, but if you go out and be a friend, you will find many!”  Love one another.  Do everything in love, 1 Corinthians 16:14 says.  A friend loves at all times, Proverbs 17:17 tells us.  So give that co-worker a smile, and talk to them, genuinely talk to them, show them you care. Reach out to someone who is hurting and lonely. Visit your neighbors – you know, the ones that live on your street that you have never even met?  Volunteer somewhere to help someone in need.  Love is like a boomerang – it will come back to you!

My desk will be empty this year, but don’t let it fool you.  If you could see my heart, you would see that it remains full of love.I will reach out to love others every day, while carrying my husband’s love for me in my heart, always.  Those we love become a part of us. We become a part of them. “And now these three remain faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”  1 Corinthians 13:13. Let me close by letting you all know, too, my dear sisters, that I love each and every one of you, even though I may not have met you!  I am counting on you all to spread the love!
