Good Morning Courageous Woman by Kathy Cobb

Good Morning Courageous Woman by Kathy Cobb

Have you ever thought of yourself as being a woman of great courage?  As I was thinking about my friends this morning three powerful words came to mind: courage, bravery, and encouragement.

In the movie, Wizard of Oz, courage is the main theme that is woven throughout the storyline. It’s through courage that the characters are able to develop a sense of their true identity.  The word courage means the ability to disregard fear; bravery.  So it seems that courage takes thought plus action.  As the story unfolds, each character is faced with many obstacles.  They had to step out of their comfort zone, which required bravery.  Being brave means you are ready to face and endure danger and are willing to go through the pain to overcome your obstacles.  Just like Dorothy and her friends we all have fears that prevent us from discovering the wealth of treasure that lies within us. Like our friends in Oz, we must face our fears and go beyond the norm.

Dorothy was running away from her problems, Scarecrow didn’t think he was educated enough to do a new thing, Tin Man wanted to feel again and the Cowardly Lion lacked the courage to discover his true inner being.  What I love about this movie is that I can relate to all the characters.  As they were following the Yellow Brick Road they had to face their own personal battles; overcome them and worked together to win the bigger battles before them.

As friends, they reached their goal and celebrated victory.  Many lessons were learned along the Yellow Brick Road.  Hearts were healed, relationships were restored, trust was built, character was formed.  They learned to use their words to encourage and build each other up.  To me, it is a beautiful representation of the gift of friendship.  So today, as you go about your business encourage yourself and, others, rejoice in your friend’s victories and celebrate being a Courageous Woman!
