28 Apr Deep Peace by Sandra Chambers
Where I live in eastern North Carolina we don’t get much snow. We’re lucky to get just a dusting once or twice a winter. But this particular morning, the ground was covered and snow was still falling. Morning light was just breaking and I was mesmerized by the beauty and quiet of the snowfall. As I sat looking out the large picture window I noticed that there was a deafening silence. TOTAL silence! Not a bird was chirping, not a dog barking or any other sound inside or outside. And for just a moment this deep SILENCE took away my breath and transported me into God’s presence where I experienced His peace as never before.
I needed that because of the trial I was facing, and He knew that. As I continued to watch the snowflakes fall in silence I noticed that at times the flakes were large, beautiful, and easily defined. Then there was a shift, and all I could see was a fine white mist that blended into the white landscape.
Then God spoke to me inwardly: My presence is like those snowflakes. Sometimes you are aware in sharp detail of My presence, but at other times you can only see the mist of My presence. That doesn’t mean I’m not there, but only that you can’t distinguish the specific details of My workings in your life.
