Contentment – How do you get there? by Nickie Wheeler

Could you go a month without buying anything? Could you only buy food ( and I mean food to actually cook at home) and gas? Contentment seems for some to be tied to the things they have or can buy. I want to live debt free ( I am almost there) but THINGS keep getting in my way. Putting my want for today aside so I can live the way I want to in my future, its tough, chipping away one small goal at a time, putting my focus on the future. Do I really need all those things? Are they just cluttering up my life when someone else could probably use them? Contentment??? How do you get there?

Prayerfully asking God to help you, there are so many references in the bible about this subject, we all know them. “You cannot serve two masters..” You choose, you have the ability to direct your money, your mind, those thoughts, the clutter, the chaos. I don’t know about you but my life seems easily, more stable when I have less clutter. Why are we holding on to so many things??

AS my debt has gone down, my life has improved, all those THINGS did not improve my life. Reducing my debt reduces my worry, reduces my anxiety, lifts my spirits, gives me freedom. It helps make me happy and that goes along with the JOY I want to keep in my life.

Happiness is one of those things people link to contentment, I agree on some levels although day to day happiness can change. I find that a peaceful mind to handle all the chaos (including happy times) makes me feel content. Its the feeling of being free of the “wants” and striving towards your goals while enjoying where you are.. you are NOT thinking when I do this I will be happy, I will have arrived, its the process of enjoying where you are and focusing on those moments not rushing to complete the next event, conversation, meeting etc.. Your life should not be controlled by the future it should be lived in the present. Accept the gifts from God use them in your life and be content in all things. God has brought you to where you are for a reason, he has allowed your life to be a testimony for others. He knows you can handle it, even if we have to learn the lesson several times. We must use it for HIS glory. For me becoming debt free was one of those “Leap of Faith“  moments. How was God going to provide for me and my family? At the time a single mom with 3 kids and almost 60K in debt. Being content with where my life was, not comparing it to others and letting it go and putting the focus on where God was leading me, opened my mind to clear the clutter, remove the chaos and be able to live the LIFE God has for me and my family.
