Are You Up for the Hard Task? by Kathy Cobb

Are You Up for the Hard Task? by Kathy Cobb

One of the most complicated commands God gives us is to love our neighbor as ourselves. A hard task and yet, with God, all things are possible.

Loving and accepting each other’s differences and points of view can definitely be a challenge in today’s world. Thankfully, God’s love is our answer.

To love others, one must first learn to love oneself. Some think that loving yourself is selfish and arrogant, but I do not believe this because God created us in his image. However, I do believe we need God in our lives to help us learn to love ourselves. This allows God to impart His character and love into our inner being, which helps us walk out of God’s command to love your neighbor as yourself. Since God’s love is the answer, why not let him show you how to love others with grace and kindness?

(Let’s establish this upfront – learning to live God’s way does not mean you cannot have a difference of opinion. It just means you can live in harmony and offer grace with those who think differently)

This revelation of love not only allows you to see yourself through God’s eyes but gives clarity on why you react instead of responding to others in certain situations. It’s in this place of unhealthy emotions that you need God to prune you and fill your heart with peace.

Living with healthy emotions gives you the ability to love yourself and extend grace to others.

From personal experience, the pruning process is so worth it. Letting God prune me through the years (yes, it’s an ongoing process) has shaped me to be a kinder and gentler person.

I am so thankful that God made this a commandment for us to follow. To see others through his eyes is precious.

What a beautiful gift he gave us – walking life bathed in God’s joy, grace, kindness, and love even with differences of opinions!

If you desire to love others like God, then go to Him. His love will truly open up your heart so wide to where kindness and grace will follow you all the days of your life.
