07 Jan Reclaiming Your Joy in 2024 by Kathy Cobb
Over the last few months, I have been blogging about joy. As you can tell, living a joy filled life is very important to me. Maybe it is because it is an area that I have had to work the hardest to overcome. Those who know me personally will tell you I try to see the bright side of life, and it is true. Have I always been that way? Yes and no! As a child, I really did have an optimistic spin to life but as the years went by and life became more intense, I began to see life in a more negative frame of mind. Yes, there were moments when I would feel joyous but that would only last for a season. Are you like me? Do you want to live a life filled with joy? If so, make the decision today to become an overcomer and join the Joy Club!
There is something to be said about surrounding yourself with people who are positive and who embrace life as an adventure to discover. There are people whose bent is naturally happy, and God blesses them. But for those who have joined the ranks of overcomers, I salute you with a few words of wisdom to pass your way if you’ve made the decision to move forward.
I would start by going to God and sharing your true feelings with Him. God is a great listener, and He wants all of his daughters to live a life filled with joy.
Next, spend some quiet time identifying those things (people, places, and things) that steal your joy. By identifying your joy busters, you have the opportunity to discover the whys and begin your journey into the Joy Club!
As you look at your list be honest with yourself and ask questions like, is this person, place, or thing a joy buster? Does this activity improve my surroundings? Does this environment cause me to grow, or does it drain me of my energy? Is it stealing time away from my purpose, spouse, or family? When I am with that person, do I feel cherished or insecure? Do I need to set emotional, physical, or spiritual boundaries in my life?
You may find that when you truthfully answer these questions, you need to set new boundaries in your life. As you dig deeper and identify joy busters in your life, old patterns and mindsets that once paralyzed you will no longer have power over you!
Once you have identified the obstacles, continue seeking God and praying for guidance. It will be in those times of reflection that God will show you the why’s and even heal the hurt that joy buster situations have caused.
There are still times in my life when I have to fight off that joy buster feeling, but now my mind and heart fight for the peace that joy brings, and joy wins every time.
In conclusion, remember to surround your life with positive influences. Cherish your family, friends and co-workers. Be patient with others because you may be the only person, they know who is living a life filled with joy.
