Progress Not Perfection by Nickie Wheeler

Progress not perfection, yes we have all heard that one.. now the real truth is that perfectionism is the ultimate form of self-abuse. It paralyses us from moving forward, many times we think too highly of ourselves.

Let me explain. I know we all want to do things right, we sometimes hold ourselves back if we can’t do it perfectly. We will not share that word with a friend because we are worried about how it might sound.. We won’t speak in from of a group  because we don’t like the sound of our voices, we don’t fellowship with each other because our house is not clean. we stop, we fall into Satan’s trap. I know it sounds harsh to say perfectionism is the ultimate form of self-abuse but it really is, thinking we have to have that perfect marriage, the perfect kids, the perfect spiritual life, the perfect…whatever.

Guess what?

We can never be perfect until we leave this planet. Jesus forgave our sins, he knew we were not going to be perfect. He knew we would be tempted, he also knows that despair is not the answer, being perfect is not the answer. There is only one answer, Our living Lord. He wants to use our brokenness, our flaws , the person we are becoming to spread his light. The light shines through our cracks to the other imperfect people in the world, drawing them closer to Him. God is perfect, we are not.

We are here to live the Word, to show the fallen world that there is hope. If we try to be perfect no one really believes us, we all know that this life is just the warm up for our real eternal life.

Live the word, in the world don not be part of it and live knowing that He supports our imperfect parts, this is where we want to be, our flaws and all, showing the people around us that we are all welcomed to the Kingdom. Without his support and love we cannot be who He has chosen us to be! He loves your flaws, relax, enjoy life, use those things to strengthen others!

Life is about the progress we make everyday!
