God Our Master Contractor – He Makes All Things New by Dottie Coffman

God Our Master Contractor – He Makes All Things New by Dottie Coffman

On Father’s Day 2015, our neighbor across the street passed away.  It was sudden although he had been very ill for a long time and his house was in great disrepair.  There was no one to pass it on to, or to take responsibility for the house, so the bank took it over.  Of course, it was inevitably sold on the courthouse steps.  A very cool contractor bought it to remodel it and flip it.  That contractor just happens to be a female.  We watched from our perch across the street as Darlene worked and worked and worked some more to restore the house to a safe, attractive place to live.  It took her several months.  As I watched the house make this transformation, I could not help but think that run down house is so much like me.  So many things on the inside that are breaking down and need fixin’.  And the outside needs remodeling as well, fresh coat of paint, repairing the bones and muscles, etc.

Sometimes we recognize that things are breaking down on us.  Sometimes we actually get up and do something about it.  We may work to repair, or to correct, or to replace.  But sometimes we ignore the breakdown.  Sometimes we turn a blind eye and what happens is things get worse and worse.  If the steps are not repaired, they will finally fall apart and no one can use them, or someone tries to use them, falls through the rotten wood, and gets hurt.

I see God as the Great Contractor.  If we let Him, He will come into the broken-down pits of our lives and fix them right up.  He can repair, restore, rejuvenate, and make us shiny like new again.  God wants to use us, so He wants us in the best possible condition to do His best possible work.

As I sat and watched this broken-down house come to life again, the shutters painted, the overgrown weeds and bushes trimmed and pulled, the siding pressure washed, and all that was just the outside.  Inside new carpet, new walls were built, new cabinets, new appliances, etc.  There was a nasty odor inside so that had to be eliminated.  Even the garage floor was painted.  What a transformation.

God wants to do that for us and certainly CAN do that for us.  He wants to take our overgrown weeds and leaky faucets and heal them.  He wants us to feel good and look good and feel like we look good.  He loves us so much he will suffer the stink and the stain to help us be the best we can be.  Go to Him.  He is the Master Contractor of our lives.  He will make all things new.
